When Gretchen Livingston and I were writing the Latinos Online report last year, we worked hard to find ways to present the nuances of the data. One of our favorite charts was what we called the “thermometer” of access because it showed, almost at a glance, the disparities of internet access among the many different groups we discuss in the report.
Jessica Vitak and I have now taken that idea a step further, updating the internet access numbers and adding a chart for cell phone ownership and home broadband penetration. Here is the resulting presentation: Degrees of Access. The last slide includes a summary grid of the typology of information and communication technology users, which provides another excellent view of the digital landscape.
