The public largely sees the same prerequisites for marriage and cohabitation
Adults who are living with a partner don’t necessarily feel pressure to get married
Among non-engaged cohabiters who want to get married someday, many cite finances as a reason why they are not engaged or married to their partner
About half of cohabiters who have never been married want to marry someday
Many see cohabitation as a step toward marriage
Cohabiting women are more likely than men to say love was a major factor in their decision to move in with partner
Reasons for marriage and cohabitation differ considerably on some dimensions
