Among the 74% of American adults who use the internet, 8% report using Twitter, the microblogging service that allows users to read and share a continuous stream of 140-character thoughts online. Just 2% of online adults use Twitter on a typical day, however. Twitter is especially popular among young adults — 14% of online adults ages 18 to 29 use the social networking tool. Just 4% of adults ages 65 and older use Twitter. Minority internet users are more likely to tweet than are white internet users. Among online adults, 18% of Hispanics and 13% of blacks use Twitter, while only 5% of whites use the microblogging service.
