2011 National Survey of Latinos

Field Dates: 11/9/11 – 12/7/11 Respondents: Nationally-representative sample of 1,220 Latino respondents ages 18 and older Margin of Error: +/-3.6 percentage points at the 95% confidence level This survey focused on politics and the upcoming 2012 presidential election, identity, attitudes regarding immigration and enforcement, and values.

A majority of Hispanics say they most often identify themselves by their family’s country of origin; just 24% say they prefer a pan-ethnic label.

A majority of Latinos believe that the economic downturn that began in 2007 has been harder on them than on any other ethnic group in America.

By a ratio of more than two-to-one (59% versus 27%), Latinos disapprove of the way the Obama administration is handling deportations of unauthorized immigrants.
